Suburban collective housing, New Belgrade, Serbia
TYPE: Suburban multifamily housing LOCATION: New Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia YEAR: 2025. SIZE: 4x460 m2 STATUS: Permitting CREDITS: Nikola Stevanović, Nemanja Kordić, Jelena Smiljanić, Irena Nikolić This project consists of four suburban residential buildings located on the outskirts of New Belgrade, conceived as a low-rise, high-density housing typology. Each building accommodates four residential units, creating a compact yet comfortable living environment that balances individual housing with collective urban form. The ground level is dedicated to garages, technical spaces and supporting functions, while the residential units are organized across two upper floors. The buildings are positioned in close proximity to one another, forming a continuous sequence that reads as a unified urban structure rather than isolated volumes. Through their repetition and alignment, the buildings establish a clear spatial rhythm and contribute to a cohesive neighborhood identity. The architectural expression is defined through a deliberate material hierarchy. The lower levels are articulated with heavier façade materials, combining brick cladding and stucco finishes to visually anchor the buildings to the ground. The upper floors are treated in lighter tones, reducing the perceived mass and reinforcing the vertical layering of the volumes. This contrast enhances the overall balance of the composition, grounding the buildings while maintaining a calm and contemporary character within the suburban context.
